My biggest mistake was not focusing on sales
By Sérgio Ferrás

When I first started my entrepreneurial journey, I was hungry to create
Engineering and finance background, loved coding
Somehow I hoped I could code something that people would just buy!
“Build something so good that they will come”.
And so I used to only focus on the product and operations
Honestly, I am great at that! I build systems that work and that scale.
I’m scrappy and don’t need fancy tools to get the job done: I make it happen
But if you build a system that has nothing to process, you’re doomed.
No one will know how cool your website is, if you don’t put it out there.
In my current company, the first thing I worried about was a high converting landing page
Everything else was secondary
I could have wasted months developing the perfect system.
But the truth is: I first needed clients to actually understand what system I was building. To break things and iterate
To understand what are the weak links and create safeguards that keep everything in its own place
Now, I’m constantly thinking “sales is #1!”.
If sales are not there, there’s absolutely nothing else that you need to work on
You figure out operations as you go.
What else could you be doing right now to increase your sales?
